As we learned earlier this month when De La Soul released the single “Dilla Plugged In”, the legendary hip-hop group simultaneously announced that among their many new projects in the works, they would also be dropping a tribute mixtape in honor of their late dear friend and iconic pioneer of a producer, J Dilla.
Earlier today, De La Soul made the tribute mixtape, Smell The Da.I.S.Y. (Da Inner Soul Of Yancey), officially available for download.
The 11-track mixtape features a collection of previously unreleased Dilla production as a canvas for an assortment of classic and revamped De La lyrics.
Along with the Dilla tribute project, De La Soul has recently announced that at the end of this month they will be releasing an EP called, Premium Soul On The Rocks, which features them exercising their lyrical prowess over some original DJ Premier and Pete Rock beats. De La will also be dropping their eighth official studio album (and first in ten years), You’re Welcome, this summer.
