Former USC Trojans Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Matt Leinart currently serves as a college football analyst for Fox Sports. And he recently re-shared a controversial post regarding Dr. Anthony Fauci, who became famous for helping lead the United States through the COVID-19 pandemic.
Earlier this week, Matt Leinart re-posted a social media post from The Daily Mail claiming Fauci admitted that he “made up” COVID-19 social distancing rules.
“REVEALED: Dr. Anthony Fauci confesses he ‘made up’ covid rules including 6 feet social distancing and masking kids,” the post said, which Leinart reposted.

Obviously, this is a controversial move from Leinart because as a community note points out, that’s not what Fauci said at all. He simply said that he did not recall the first mention of those rules or how they were initially proposed.
“This headline is misleading. Dr Fauci did not confess to ‘making up’ COVID rules. He stated that he could not recall the first mention of the ‘6ft rule’ but discussed the area of spray of a sneeze as a logical part of that discussion,” the community note said.
Needless to say, it’s a pretty shocking and dangerous thing for a member of the media to blindly share before actually checking into what was actually said by Fauci.
