The Chicago Bears will look for another head coach this coming offseason. It’s clear who’s in charge of that search, and it’s also clear the team will keep their best interests in mind.
General manager Ryan Poles, who will lead the team’s search for its next coach, announced during a press conference Monday that whoever takes the job will be responsible in developing rookie quarterback Caleb Williams.

This falls into the ‘obvious’ category of news, but it’s sometimes necessary to state the obvious.
The Bears will hope to avoid the same trap they’ve fallen into several times already in the last decade. Back in 2017, despite having a lame-duck head coach in John Fox, the team drafted Mitchell Trubisky.
When that didn’t go well, as expected, the team cut bait with Fox. Matt Nagy took over duties, but he quickly flamed out too. Still, in 2021, the Bears drafted Justin Fields.
Then, that didn’t go well either. Nagy was fired after one season with Fields. He never developed right in the Windy City and they parted ways with him this past offseason. They then drafted Caleb Williams, the consensus No. 1 player in the draft.
Despite having a lame duck head coach again, this time in Matt Eberflus, who didn’t even make it to the final week.
Keeping Williams on the up and up is indeed paramount for the Bears’ next head coach. But Chicago would also be wise to run the ship right this time.
