New England Patriots tight end, Rob Gronkowski has signed a six-year extension with the team worth a reported $54 million. The deal gives him $18.17 million guaranteed and will keep Gronk with the Patriots through the 2019 season. Gronkowski already has two years left on his current contract, making this, essentially, an eight-year deal. The new contract will be added on to the $1.1 million he is already scheduled to make over the next two years, which also includes an $8 million signing bonus and a $10 million option bonus if the Patriots decide to pick him up for the last four years of his deal in the 2015 season.
“Gronk Nation” set an NFL record for tight ends in the 2011 season, with 17 touchdowns and a record 1,327 receiving yards on 90 receptions. He was virtually unstoppable during the regular season before he injured his ankle, which slowed him in the Super Bowl versus the New York Giants.
