Things are becoming bleak fast in the Meadowlands.
Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets fell to 2-3 on Sunday after a 23-17 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in an overseas matchup in London. Rodgers had one of the worst games of his career. The former league MVP and Super Bowl champion went 29-for-54 with two passing touchdowns and three interceptions.
Unfortunately for Rodgers, injury was added to the insult. Rodgers’ leg bent at an awkward angle after taking a hit in the third quarter, and he was left crawling on the turf and clutching at the back of his leg.
Rodgers was able to walk off the field gingerly under his own power, but fans were concerned seeing the veteran in clear pain on the turf.
The injury was especially concerning considering the last time Rodgers walked awkwardly off the field for the Jets, it was due to a ruptured Achilles that cost him the entire season in his Jets debut. This time Rodgers went to be evaluated but wasn’t able to get the attention he needed from the medical staff.
The Vikings committed a roughing the kicker penalty on fourth down, giving the Jets a fresh set of downs. Rodgers returned to the field and delivered points on the drive to narrow the deficit and keep New York in the game.
After the drive, he was finally evaluated in the blue medical tent. The medical staff determined that Rodgers was clear to play, but the hits are starting to pile up for the 40-year-old.
With the Jets struggling and the hits piling up on his aging body, it’ll be interesting to see if Rodgers calls it quits on the sport soon.
