The Chicago Bears signed star wide receiver D.J. Moore to a four-year, $110 million contract valued at $27.5 million a year. It’s a significant pay raise, though it doesn’t make him anywhere near the highest-paid wide receiver in the league. But as it turns out, that was never the goal for Moore.
During a press conference after signing his new contract with the Chicago Bears, D.J. Moore acknowledged that he was motivated to get a new deal after seeing many of the league’s top wide receivers ink new contracts this offseason, but he wasn’t trying to negotiate for the biggest contract.
“You’ve got to follow it,” Moore said of what other players at his position get paid according to Pro Football Talk. “They’ve all been breaking new heights, going to 35, but I wasn’t really in that mindset to go to the top-top. I was just like, What’s a good number? Let’s go from there.”
Instead of a massive contract, Moore was seeking the security of guaranteed money. He received $82.6 million guaranteed in this contract, which is exactly what he was looking for.
“Security. The guaranteed money was awesome. That was the main part I loved out of the whole thing,” Moore said.
Now, Moore will be trying to live up to that contract.
