The Chicago Bears selected former USC Trojans quarterback Caleb Williams with the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft and already named him the starter this upcoming season before he even took a single snap during practice. But it doesn’t sound like he has performed the way they would have hoped during practice.
According to a report from Chicago Bears beat writer Nicholas Moreano, Caleb Williams has been really struggling during practice.
“Really rough day for Caleb Williams and the starting offense. A lot of incomplete passes and near interceptions,” Moreano said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

“In the 7-on-7 period, Williams completed just three passes. Jaylon Johnson nearly had an interception over the middle of the field,” Moreano continued.
“In the team period, most of the passes were completed to the flat, and Williams held onto the ball for a long time.”
Moreano did note that Williams was missing two of his best receivers on the day.
“It’s worth nothing that Rome Odunze and Keenan Allen did not participate in 7-on-7s and team. Also, Nate Davis and Darnell Wright were not practicing today,” Moreano said.
Still, this is pretty horrible news for Williams and the Bears, and this led to a lot of reactions on social media.
Beat writers really need a refresher that you aren't allowed to report bad news about the Bears or good news about the Cubs because it shows you have an AGENDA https://t.co/p6ZcNx7hZX

All the talent in the world, but plays/views the game like Zack Wilson, like exactly. There will be highlight plays, but never consistently https://t.co/YL6b43h7bH

Reminder that my rule is to never base optimism on pro days, camp, or pre season, but I think it's perfectly smart to base pessimism on those kinds of events.
That being said, Williams is a rookie who I profile as a good, not great starter. These things will happen. https://t.co/G1Ho7nDXVT

Obviously, there’s still a long time before the start of the season, but this is pretty concerning news.
