The Chicago Bears are expected to select USC star Caleb Williams with the No. 1 pick in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft. And it sure sounds like Williams is becoming more and more comfortable with Chicago being his home for the foreseeable future.
Williams recently spoke with ESPN’s Ryan Clark, sharing his aspirations for his NFL career. One interesting thing that he told Clark is that when he does get drafted, he wants to play for the team that drafted him for the long haul.
“I want to play in one place for 20 years,” said Williams. And chase one guy, No. 12. I want a place that loves ball. That’s all I’ve heard about Chicago so far.”
Obviously, Williams will know exactly how much he likes the Bears organization once he ultimately does get drafted by the team next week. But it is at least encouraging to hear that he plans on sticking around in Chicago for the entirety of his career.
The organization has already started to build a pretty impressive team on paper for Williams to join, bringing in star wideout Keenan Allen to pair with DJ Moore, who they brought in last offseason.
Not only that, but the Bears also have the No. 9 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft on top of the No. 1 pick that they will likely use on Williams.
Perhaps the only worrying thing for Williams as he prepares to likely go to Chicago is that the organization hasn’t exactly had the best track record when it comes to developing quarterbacks. But you can also argue that the organization hasn’t exactly surrounded their recent young quarterbacks with this much talent as they have this offseason.
Only time will tell whether Williams’ expected tenure in Chicago is a successful one. But if he is as good as many are predicting, the Bears could quickly become serious contenders in the NFC.
