When the Chicago Bears decided to trade quarterback Justin Fields this offseason, they likely expected to get quite a lot more than a conditional sixth-round pick in return for him. But as Bears’ general manager Ryan Poles admitted this week, there just weren’t a lot of options for potential trade partners.
During a recent interview at the NFL’s annual league meetings this week, Ryan Poles admitted a pretty brutal truth about the whole Justin Fields situation as he revealed that there was “a smaller pool of teams” that were interested in trading for Fields.
“As you do research and we have conversations you have to kind of adjust to the market,” Poles said according to NBC Sports Chicago. “But I think just with how other teams are built, because if you look at the beginning, there are probably teams that are looking at the draft for guys to fill in. On the back end, playoff teams probably have someone in place. So really it was a smaller pool of teams.”
Obviously, it’s pretty brutal news for Fields that he didn’t have many suitors throughout the process, and the NFL world had a lot to say about it on social media.
