It appears that Odell Beckham Jr.’s tenure with the Baltimore Ravens will be one and done.
On Sunday, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano published an extensive update regarding the player movement around the NFL that could be coming when the new league year begins on March 13. And the update included a tidbit from Fowler regarding the Ravens, who he said are “unlikely” to re-sign Beckham and could target 2019 NFL Offensive Player of the Year Michael Thomas in the weeks ahead.
“A few scouts pointed out Baltimore as a good fit,” Fowler wrote regarding Thomas. “The Ravens likely won’t re-sign Odell Beckham Jr., and they value established veterans at the receiver position.”
It’s not necessarily surprising that the Ravens wouldn’t re-sign Beckham, who they signed to a one-year, $15 million deal a year ago. Despite his lofty price tag, the LSU product posted largely pedestrian numbers in 2023, tallying 35 receptions for 565 yards and three touchdowns in 14 regular-season games for Baltimore.
The 2014 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year and and a three-time Pro Bowl selection during his tenure with the New York Giants, Beckham was once considered one of the top wide receivers in the NFL. Injuries, however, have taken a toll on the 31-year-old, who sat out the entirety of the 2022 season after suffering a torn ACL in the Los Angeles Rams’ victory over the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl LVI.
As for what’s next for Beckham, it will be interesting to see what sort of attention he garners as a free agent, as he has still flashed the ability to be a difference-maker when on the field. According to Spotrac, the New Orleans native possesses a market value of a one-year, $11.9 million contract heading into free agency.
As news of the Ravens not re-signing Beckham made headlines on Sunday, many took to social media to weigh in.
If he’s comfortable being WR4 I would love it if the Rams brought him back. https://t.co/ynw6fieNxo
