Stephen A. Smith has been the talk of the sports media world for much of the past week thanks to comments he made on ‘First Take’ regarding domestic violence last week. The comments came during a discussion about Ray Rice’s assault on his then-fiancee, during which Smith talked about the “elements of provocation” from women in domestic violence cases.
After significant backlash, Smith attempted to apologize and clarify his stance via a series of tweets but only managed to dig himself a deeper hole and make things worse for himself.
So, on Monday morning, the ESPN personality returned to ‘First Take’ where he issued another apology, stating “I made what can only amount to the most egregious error of my career.”
Though it seems like Smith’s taped apology was a little more sincere this time around, it’s important to remember that this isn’t exactly the first time he’s made such comments about violence on women. Also important to remember that this apology was probably forced upon Smith by the network, who ultimately decided not to suspend him for his asinine comments.
