Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson reportedly is in negotiations to step into the ring one more time for the 1,000th SmackDown event.
According to the wrestling podcast, Barnburner’s Fired Up, the mega movie and TV star is “very very close” to signing a deal which would see him return to the wrestling ring on October 16.
“For the 1,000th SmackDown which happens on October 16th they are negotiating and are very very close to a Rock appearance.
It’d be a pretty big get for the WWE to get The Rock back into the ring. He hasn’t wrestled since Wrestlemania 32 in 2016.
Johnson is literally the busiest actor on the planet and fitting him into an event won’t be an easy task. He’s currently filming the Disney theme park movie Jungle Cruise with Emily Blunt, Edgar Ramirez, and Paul Giamatti. His upcoming schedule of movies to film also jam-packed until at least 2020.
Getting the GOAT back, even for a small appearance or match, would be great. Johnson is the biggest star the WWE has ever had. He’s also got more viability in different mediums (wrestling, acting, producing) than anyone who’s ever come from the league. Bring him back for the 1,000th SmackDown and ratings are guaranteed.
Let’s hope the reports are true.
