The rookie season of one of the WNBA’s most promising young players has come to a sudden end, with the Los Angeles Sparks announcing on Wednesday that Cameron Brink has suffered a torn ACL in her left knee.
The 22-year-old forward’s injury occurred in the first quarter of the Sparks’ 79-70 defeat on Tuesday night. The injury appeared to occur when Brink slipped while driving to the basket before being helped off the court and back to the locker room.
The Sparks said in a release that additional details will be provided at a later time.

The Sparks selected Brink with the No. 2 overall pick of the 2024 WNBA Draft after the Indiana Fever drafted Caitlin Clark with the top selection. The Oregon native enjoyed a storied college career at Stanford, earning All-American selections in each of the past three seasons and twice being named the nation’s top defensive player. The 3-time Pac-12 Player of the Year also appeared in 32 games (20 starts) and averaged 9.9 points and 6.6 rebounds during the Cardinal’s national championship-winning season in 2021.
While she only averaged 7.5 points in the first 15 games of her WNBA career, Brink had made an immediate impact on the defensive side of the floor, averaging 2.3 blocks. She was also slated to represent the United States in 3×3 women’s basketball in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
