Caitlin Clark is one of the biggest sports superstars on the planet right now, but it seems that Nike made the mistake of drastically underestimating her popularity heading into the WNBA Draft resulting in a months-long wait for her jersey to be available to the masses.
Immediately after Caitlin Clark was selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the WNBA Draft by the Indiana Fever, Nike offered a limited number of pre-made jerseys, all of which sold out within two hours of her selection. And it sounds like those who were unable to secure a jersey in that initial batch will now be waiting about four months.
“We are currently sold out of our initial batch of this jersey– if you choose to place a pre-order today, our restock will be available to ship in August, please see details below. Please trust that we are working hard to service your order,” a disclaimer on Fanatics’ site says.
It’s worth noting that the Indiana Fever begin their WNBA season on May 14 and their final regular season game is Sept. 19. So based on these current shipping estimates, fans will not have their jersey until the WNBA season is almost over.
Needless to say, this is a horrible mistake for Nike.
