Back in 2022, WNBA legend Brittney Griner landed herself in trouble in Russia when she was arrested an spent nearly 10 months in custody after authorities found a small amount of cannabis oil in her luggage as she was leaving the country. And in a recent interview, Griner said it all happened because of a simple “mental lapse.”
Brittney Griner recently sat down for an interview with Robin Roberts of ABC News. While the full interview is set to air on Wednesday, a short snippet of it aired on Monday. And in it, Griner was asked how she would response to people who are skeptical that she simply forgot the cannabis was in her bag.
“I would say, ‘Have you ever forgot your keys in your car, left your car running? Have you ever (asked) where’s my glasses, and they’re on top of your head? Where’s my phone? Oh, it’s in my pocket.’ It’s just so easy to have a mental lapse,” Griner said according to Fox News.
“Granted, my mental lapse was more on a grand scale, but it doesn’t take away from how that could happen.”
The cannabis was prescribed to her by her doctor and is legal in the United States, but it was not legal in Russia.
