Why, yes. Willie Murphy is 77 years old and she can deadlift over twice her weight of 105 pounds. She was also named the 2014 Lifter of the Year by the World Natural Powerlifting Federation. Impressively, she’s only been at it for a little while, so there’s always time to catch up to this tireless woman.
It all started with a weight-lifting competition at her local YMCA in Rochester, New York, a few years ago. After an employee told her she could compete — “Go for it, granny” — Murphy began lifting 5-pound weights. Now she’s taking home trophies.
Murphy is killing her division in the WNPF. She has not only claimed first place in the deadlift but she’s also bested her competition in the power curl and bench press.
Sigh, I need to work out or something.
