Linkoping HC and Modo faced off in Swedish Hockey League playoff action yesterday and the game featured this brutal high hit on Linkoping’s Sebastian Karlsson from Modo’s Richie Regehr, the brother of Los Angeles Kings defenseman Robyn Regehr.
(Warning: If you don’t deal well with blood, you should probably just avoid the video.)

Regehr’s illegal hit caught Karlsson up high and sent him down hard to the ice, where he appeared to hit his face on impact. The ugly incident produced a scary amount of blood from Karlsson’s face and he was eventually helped off the ice and sent to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with a concussion and had to have his face stitched up.
Fortunately, there was no damage to the skull and Karlsson was later released in good spirits.
As for Regehr, he was rightfully sent off for the dangerous hit that seriously hurt not only Karlsson, but Regehr’s own team as well. Linkoping scored twice to tie the game on the power play that came from Regehr’s major penalty, then proceeded to win in overtime and eliminate Modo.
That should teach you to keep your elbows down.
