Tiger Woods has withdrawn from The Players Championship after playing nine holes and shooting a 42. Woods was playing for the first time since the Masters, and has missed time due to knee and Achilles tendon injuries.
After completing the front nine at TPC Sawgrass, Woods handed his scorecard to playing partner Martin Kaymer and walked off the course. He was quoted after as saying: “I am having a hard time walking.”
Woods cringed following his approach shot onto the fifth green. After five holes, he blew an up-and-down to drop to 5-over, despite perfect conditions on the course.
Tiger ran into real trouble at No. 4, where his second shot found the water fronting the green. He took a drop from short of the green but hit his next shot right back into the drink. (Reports that he said “whoopsie-daisies” after that shot have not been confirmed.) Woods dropped from the same area and made a Tiger Woods-esque up-and-down to save a triple-bogey 7.
