You probably thought that between saving the world every week and cranking out movies every few years the X-Men don’t have time for sports. You couldn’t be more wrong. Not only do Wolverine, Storm, Cyclops, Rogue and the rest of the mutant crew follow sports but apparently they are San Francisco Giants fans who wanted to find their own way to celebrate the Giants 2011 World Series win.
In honor of WonderCon 2011 Marvel has released a San Francisco Giants variant of Uncanny X-Man #534 with the World Series trophy on the cover:
It apparently doesn’t hurt that Marvel’s editor-in-chief, Axel Alonso, is from San Francisco:
Being from San Francisco, I am ecstatic about how strong Marvel’s presence will be at WonderCon this year. And with San Francisco now the adopted hometown of the X-Men, it just made perfect sense to create a variant for this show which celebrated the city and its achievements.
Safe to assume Magneto cheers for the Dodgers and will making an attempt to steal the trophy.
