The WWE SummerSlam is shaping up to be a must-watch event for any fan of professional wrestling. The story lines are ripe and WWE has pitted some of wrestling’s most entertaining figures against each other for the pay-per-view event on August 17th.
Want some bad blood? Stephanie McMahon is getting in the ring with Brie Bella after the two have had consistent escalating run-ins with each other all summer. When a match has the added dynamics of family drama, arrests and affairs, it’s sure to be bombastic.
Bray Wyatt and Chris Jericho will also go toe-to-toe as the Wyatt Family has been giving Jericho a less-than-friendly welcome back to the WWE. Jericho has to be looking forward to this one as the Wyatt Family interfered with Chris’s last match against Luke Harper.
There’s also some other great matches in store for SummerSlam. Jack Swagger will take on Rusev in the flag match. The Miz will fight Dolph Ziggler for the WWE Intercontinental Championship. Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins will face off in the Lumberjack match. Randy Orton and Roman Reigns are set for a single’s match. Not to be forgotten, AJ Lee and Paige will headline the WWE Divas Championship as well.
And of course, there’s the WWE World Heavyweight Championship which will have John Cena battling Brock Lesnar. Lesnar hasn’t been in a match since Wrestlemania 30 but he made his presence known by memorably snapping The Undertaker’s 21-0 winning streak. He may not be as consistent a presence as Cena has been in the WWE but it’s clear that Lesnar is an absolute force to be reckoned with and he has a ton of momentum right now. John Cena, of course, is a WWE rock star. The two faced each other two years ago with Cena emerging victorious in an Extreme Rules match but there will be no weapons allowed in this one. Just two of wrestling’s largest draws going head-to-head. Pitting Cena against Lesnar is a wrestling fan’s dream and it may be the WWE’s biggest match in years. No matter who wins, the results will cause reverberations for years to come.
WWE SummerSlam is available on WWE Network along with all past and future WWE pay-per-views. SummerSlam will be unavailable through DirecTV or Dish Network so please plan accordingly.
