5. Seattle Mariners, 2001 American League Championship Series
Speaking of the Yankees, the 2001 Mariners won more games than any team in history. There was no way they could lose this thing, right? They were going to avenge the 2000 ALCS loss to the Yankees, right? RIGHT? Nope! It was a total no-show by the Mariners, who lost the first two games at home. The Yankees let them win a laugher in Game 3 in New York, before finishing them off in five games. It wasn’t just brutal, it was downright embarrassing. In fact, it would have been the most embarrassing loss in Seattle sports history if not for #3 on this list. Before that, we have to talk about a Super Bowl (no, not this one…that one).
(Final note on the Mariners: they have never made it to a World Series, and haven’t made the playoffs since 2001.)
