The Canyon Farms Golf Club in Lenexa, Kansas has been experiencing so much rain that it recently caused a massive sinkhole to open up on the course’s 13th hole.
As for how rain would cause a scene straight out of a disaster film, part of the course is apparently built on a quarry pit. The rain caused the top of the quarry’s roof to cave in under the added water weight according to meteorologist Gary Amble:
“We had a cave and the roof essentially over the top of the cave became so burdened with moisture and so heavy, that it just collapsed in on itself,” Amble said.
Seeing as how fixing the hole will definitely be a massive undertaking, golfers will have to make do with the added hazard for now. However, the area is fenced off so no one will be allowed to play where the ball lies if it does happen to fall into the massive crater.
