As the PGA Tour and LIV Golf head toward what appears to be a sort of alliance between the two leagues, PGA Tour Jordan Spieth has confirmed that he is being “encouraged” to meet with those behind LIV Golf’s funding.
Last week, Jordan Spieth confirmed that he and some other top golfers were “being encouraged” to meet with Yasir Al-Rumayyan and those in charge of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, which funds LIV Golf.
“We are being encouraged to potentially meet with them at some point,” Spieth said according to Golf Magic.
“I’m not sure that I can say much more other than we’re being encouraged to potentially meet with them, but at the same time we probably feel like our membership should know timing and what could happen and just in general maybe it’s just a meet — I think there’s not a whole lot more I can say about that, but we are being encouraged obviously which I think is probably a good thing that the entire board should if there’s going to be any potential for a negotiation.”
It’s not clear what exactly this meeting could be about, but with the PGA Tour and LIV Golf seemingly headed to a sort of alliance under the PIF, it would obviously make sense for the PIF to want to have a relationship with some of the PGA Tour’s top stars.
