Following the tragic shooting at the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl victory parade on Wednesday that injured at least 22 people and claimed the life of one, United States President Joe Biden is calling for gun control.
In a statement on Wednesday, Joe Biden called for a ban on assault rifles among other gun control measures following the tragic events at the Chiefs parade.
“The Super Bowl is the most unifying event in America,” he said. “Nothing brings more of us together. And the celebration of a Super Bowl win is a moment that brings a joy that can’t be matched to the winning team and their supporters. For this joy to be turned to tragedy today in Kansas City cuts deep in the American soul.
Kansas City.
Atlanta.
D.C.Today, six years since Parkland, acts of gun violence cut deep in the American soul.
Jill and I pray for those killed and injured today, and for our country to find the resolve to end the senseless epidemic of gun violence tearing us at the seams. pic.twitter.com/sqr5ww1G5O

“Today’s events should move us, shock us, shame us into acting. What are we waiting for? What else do we need to see? How many more families need to be torn apart? It is time to act. That’s where I stand. And I ask the country to stand with me. To make your voice heard in Congress so we finally act to ban assault weapons, to limit high-capacity magazines, strengthen background checks, keep guns out of the hands of those who have no business owning them or handling them.”
Obviously, Biden’s words led to a lot of reactions on social media.
Devastated by the news out of Kansas City on a day of celebration — and as we still continue to mourn those we lost in Parkland six years ago today.
Gun violence is destroying our communities, it’s indisputably a public health crisis. https://t.co/YRGLpdI1ut

We need to understand violence in the US to stop it. Over half the mass shootings in the US are of family—they’re domestic violence. Guns IN the home are killing our women and children. The leading cause of death for kids is guns. For pregnant women—murder by gun https://t.co/1AnML5GwEF

We have More mass shootings than there have been days in this year. Sit and think about that for awhile. 💔 https://t.co/lmirXGPNNL

Thoughts and prayers isn’t enough! The government has to do something about gun violence or innocent men women and children will continue to die because of guns! https://t.co/aOPybTR32M

All of what Biden wants to do here won't get accomplished – certainly not with a Republican-controlled house – but it feels significant that painfully apolitical NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport is RTing this. https://t.co/XKLKLPM76y

I never thought I’d see Kansas City on a list like this. Lawd, this breaks my heart. https://t.co/5Yrj1NFm2V

We’ll have to see whether or not this leads to any gun control measures.
