Defenders usually don’t strike pay dirt as they spend a large amount of time on their side of the pitch. However, if you can score from halfway down the pitch you can definitely turn some heads.
Dirty Tackle breaks it down:
Martinez delivered an equalizer for Real Sociedad in a match Athletic Bilbao eventually won 2-1 on Sunday with this rocket from beyond the halfway line that caught opposing keeper Gorka Iraizoz off his line. Not only was this the first goal of Martinez’s career, but Real Madrid’s Xabi Alonso even called the best goal in the 18-year history of Real Sociedad’s Anoeta stadium. Not a bad way to break one’s duck.
