Seven people have been taken to a hospital after a horse jumped over a high fence into a crowd of about 50 spectators during the Grand Annual Steeplechase at Warrnambool race track. Banna Strand, who at the time did not have a rider, veered off course Thursday and jumped a 7-foot (2-meter) brush fence into the crowd.
The most serious injury was to a 2-year-old girl, who suffered a fractured collarbone. The other 6 injuries were all minor and treated at a nearby hospital.
The race is under investigation.
