In the first week of the 86’ season, Montana suffered a serious back injury to a spinal disc, requiring immediate surgery. The Doctors assumed he wouldn’t return to play football, due to the serious injury. He returned a few months later, appeared in eight games receiving NFL comeback player of the year award. The following season he made 31 touch-down passes in 13 games, helping the 49ers finish with the best record in NFL. Montana took his team to the Super Bowl in 88 & 89, winning it all.
