Thanks to the much-hyped fight between himself and Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather earned more money than any other athlete on the planet in the past year.
The man known as “Money” is definitely living up to his nickname. According to Forbes, Mayweather earned a staggering $300 million over the past twelve months. $300 million.
That figure not only put him far above any athlete in terms of earnings, totally eclipses the previous record that was held by Tiger Woods:
Mayweather’s $300 million year shatters the record for athlete earnings, which was previously held by Tiger Woods, who banked $115 million in 2008 ($125 million adjusted for inflation).
Amazingly, Mayweather made nearly all of his money off of salary and winnings. Of the $300 million, only $15 million came from endorsements.
Based off of that, it’s not as surprising to learn that Mayweather’s May sparring partner opponent Manny Pacquiao also had himself a very lucrative year. Pacquiao landed second on the Forbes list with $160 million in earnings.
The top ten highest-paid athletes of 2015 was rounded out by Cristiano Ronaldo ($79.6 million), Lionel Messi ($73.8 million), Roger Federer ($67 million), LeBron James ($64.8 million), Kevin Durant ($54.1 million), Phil Mickelson ($50.8 million), Tiger Woods ($50.6 million) and Kobe Bryant ($49.5 million).
A little surprisingly, not one football player or baseball player cracked the top ten (Ben Roethlisberger just missed the top ten by securing the 11th spot while the first baseball player to make the list, Jon Lester, came in at 19th).
