Tiger Woods had a very rough first round Thursday in the 144th British Open, and that is putting it nicely. Woods escaped after day one with a 4-over-par 76, which is one of his worst rounds of all-time at the Old Course. Critics continued to come out of the woodwork following the round, and one of the most random to lay into Tiger was the AARP on Twitter.
The Tweet sent following Tiger’s round reads “.@TigerWoods It’s better to be over 50, than it is to be over par. #DisruptAging #TheOpen,” which was a moderately below the belt jab from the organization. The Tweet was sent in reference to Tiger’s quote from last week when he mentioned the AARP in an interview.
“Well, retirement? I don’t have any AARP card yet, so I’m a ways from that….I’m still young. I’m not 40 yet. I know some of you guys think I’m buried and done, but I’m still right here in front of you.”
The Tweet is quite ironic that the mission statement of the AARP says that is “a membership organization leading positive social change and delivering value to people age 50 and over through information, advocacy and service.”
