Changes are coming to the Buffalo Bills’ secondary.
On Wednesday, the Bills announced that they have released safety Jordan Poyer. Alongside Micah Hyde, Poyer had formed what many considered to be one of the best safety tandems in the NFL dating back to both players signing with Buffalo in 2017.
Originally selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the seventh round of the 2013 NFL Draft, the Oregon State product spent one year with the franchise before being claimed off of waivers by the Cleveland Browns. Following three years in Cleveland, Poyer signed a four-year, $13 million contract with the Bills and went on to enjoy the best years of his career in Buffalo, earning first-team All-Pro honors in 2021 and a Pro Bowl selection in 2022.
In addition to his strong play, the 32-year-old Poyer has remained incredibly durable, appearing in fewer than 15 regular-season games just once in his seven seasons with the Bills. In releasing him, Buffalo will reportedly save $5.72 million in cap space.
In addition to Poyer, the Bills also released former Pro Bowl center Mitch Morse, defensive back Siran Neal, kick returner/wide receiver Deonte Hardy and running back Nyheim Hines on Wednesday, in addition to reportedly designating former All-Pro cornerback Tre’Davious White as a post-June 1 release.
