One issue that has always plagued the UFC over the years as popularity has grown for the sport of MMA has been fighter pay in comparison to other combat sports. And one fighter in particular who has been a big name for the UFC decided to call out the promotion for how they compensate their fighters.
In comparison, compensation in the top boxing promotions is night and day compared to the UFC. There is a reason why Conor McGregor decided to opt for a boxing match against Floyd Mayweather…
Former UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland, who has a fight on Saturday at UFC 302 against Paulo Costa, recently spoke with now-retired UFC fighter Daniel Cormier, going off on the UFC over how their fighters are treated by the promotion.
“The UFC doesn’t do the right things,” said Strickland in a video shared by Championship Round on X, formerly known as Twitter. “It doesn’t f****** do the right things. It doesn’t do the right things with most of their roster. if you go look at what these f****, the guys that run the UFC, what they’re making to what guys get paid. It’s f****** s*** dude. They don’t do the right things. And unless you hold them at gunpoint, they ain’t gonna f****** do it.”
We’ve seen plenty of fighters talk about fighter pay in the company after they have left the UFC. But Strickland doing so while he is still one of the best fighters in the UFC should certainly speak volumes.
