We here at Cosby Sweaters like to embrace the holidays by trying a variety of different foods and beverages. After doing a bit of research I came across something called Sizzurp.
Sizzurp, also known as Drank, Purple Drank, Lean, Syrup, Purple Jelly and Texas Tea, originated in Houston, Texas. Popular music producer DJ Screw popularized the concoction, which was probably part of his inspiration for his “chopped and screwed” style of hip-hop music. The drink went nationwide in 2000, when Three 6 Mafia released their single, “Sippin’ on some Syrup”.
To make this delicious beverage, you need three ingredients: Sprite, a Jolly Rancher candy and some prescription strength couch syrup containing codeine and promethazine.
Naturally, we cannot condone the use of the last ingredient without having a proper prescription and even if you do we ask that you be responsible. After all, DJ Screw popularized it but he also died from a codeine-promethazine-alcohol overdose in 2000.
