Back in March we told you Spotify crossed the million paid subscriber mark. These success numbers were based on their european offerings, only last month in July was the streaming music service officially available to US residents. Spotify has been available in Europe for years. It wasn’t until Spotify recently secured partnership with major record labels after long and drawn out negotiations that the service could launch in the States.
Now that the service has been operating in the United States for almost four weeks, they claim to have reached 1.4 million American users. Of those 1.4 million, 175,000 of them are paying for one of their subscription models: Spotify Unlimited or Spotify Premium. Spotify is currently getting a conversion rate of 12.5% for free to paid users. No information is available about the breakdown of which premium package paid subscribers are purchasing.
