First it was the sky with Virgin America and Virgin Atlantic, then it was space with Virgin Galactic, today it is the ocean with Virgin Oceanic. Richard Branson, billionaire and one of the world’s most successful entrepreneurs, announced at Newport Harbor Yacht Club in Newport Beach, CA his latest quest, to explore the deep-sea with Virgin Oceanic. Virgin Oceanic will send a pilot to the five deepest points on earth including the world’s deepest, Marina Trench, which is 36,201 feet below the surface. The manned underwater craft is called the DeepFlight Challenger and is made by Hawkes Ocean Technologies. Branson will spend the next two years spearheading the “Five Dives Initiative” that supports ocean research and exploration.
