According to a recent study conducted by social scientists, happy Twitter users are more likely to be tweeting and receiving tweets from other happy people. The same correlation was found with unhappy Twitter users too, tending to squawk with other unhappy Twitter folk.
The findings were determined by tracking 102,000 Twitter users over a six month period and analyzing the text of the 129 million tweets that took place. By using techniques from psychology, the scientists measured the positive and negative words in the language to calculate the “subjective well-being” of the Twitter user. The information was used to come to the conclusion that users on social networks tend to associate and interact with people who share a similar outlook on life.
