Apple just released FaceTime for Mac. Now you can video chat from your computer with those who have an iPhone 4, iPod Touch, or are running FaceTime for Mac with an associated Apple ID (iTunes account). I did a couple test calls to my iPhone 4. The iPhone still has to be on wifi or the program just sits there and hangs, not telling you anything about a failed connection.
The program is still in beta and it clearly shows. You can’t see who has a FaceTime account, you can’t search for a particular contact, you really can’t do anything. Why this isn’t integrated with iChat has got to be Apple’s laziness and their continued attempt to try and brand FaceTime and squeeze out Skype and Google Video Chat. Deleted.
If you want to give it a try you can download it here.
