I just signed up for Facebook Deals. The group purchasing program isn’t live yet, but you can sign up. So what is Facebook Deals? Not much is known yet except that it looks to be a Groupon-style buying program where you can take advantage of exclusive deals for restaurants, shows, and other group activities with friends. The service will revolve around taking advantage of local offerings at discounted prices with your social circle. It’s basically a multi-level marketing program where the more friends you get to sign up the bigger discount you and/or your group will get on the “deal” you’re purchasing. At least that’s how I see it.
Initially Facebook Deals will launch in Atlanta, Austin, Dallas, San Diego, and San Francisco. If you don’t live in one of those cities you are asked for your zip code so you can be notified when deals start popping up in your area. Facebook also has a mobile Check-in Deals service that will show you deals for nearby businesses. Watch out Foursquare!
