The United States Women’s National Team defeated Germany in a dominant showing on Sunday afternoon in the group stage of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, and it sounds like head coach Emma Hayes is quite pleased with the showing.
After the dominant win, USWNT head coach Emma Hayes called it a “mature performance” from her team and praised her team’s attack, which yielded four goals during the match.
“I think we were absolutely devastating when we needed to be,” Hayes said according to ESPN.
Hayes admits that it wasn’t a perfect showing for the team, saying “There’s still things that irritate me about us.” But all in all, she was quite happy with what she saw from the team on Sunday.
“There’s things I’m learning about the team tonight from a character perspective that I want to see, from a resilience perspective I wanted to see,” Hayes said. “When you play a top-level opponent, you get to see all sides and I saw all sides of us tonight, which was pleasing.”
The USWNT will play their last Group B match against Australia on Wednesday. With a win or a draw, the United States will clinch a first-place finish in the group.
