Lucy Clark was already a trailblazer in the transgender community after she became the English Football Association’s first-ever transgender referee, but she made even more history this year when she became the manager for Sutton United Women FC in the fifth-tier London & South East Regional Women’s Premier Division.
Clark is not the first-ever transgender manager in the competitive divisions of English women’s soccer. And for her, earning this role is nothing but a dream come true.
“It’s a dream come true,” she said in an interview after her first match as manager, according to Outsports. “I was managing Sutton on my computer games and now I’m doing it in real life.
“I’m living the dream. I love the club and I love everyone around the club so just to be involved is amazing.”
Clark came out as transgender back in 2018 when she was already serving as a referee. She made it clear that she wanted to stay in the sport, and now she’s a professional manager.
In addition to her duties with Sutton United, Clark is also the founder-player-manager of TRUK United FC with the goal of bringing trans players into the game at the grassroots level and in charity leagues across the U.K.
