As great as the play at the World Cup has been, the fans have been the real stars. Whether its been on Twitter, in the stands or in hotel rooms, the best stories about the World Cup involve normal people doing wildly entertaining things to be a part of soccer’s biggest tournament.
Take 15 year old Yago Leal, a teenager who also happens to be a really, really big Cristiano Ronaldo fan. Leal somehow evaded World Cup security and got into Ronaldo’s hotel room. When he got inside, he didn’t ransack the place or look for a memento to take. Leal broke into Ronaldo’s room to simply lie on the same bed as one of soccer’s best talents.
Once inside the room, Leal took a rest on Ronaldo’s bed because, as he said, ‘he knew he had laid on it.’
Incredibly, when Ronaldo returned to his room to find a fifteen year old stranger lying on his bed, he didn’t call the authorities to escort the boy out. Instead, Ronaldo allowed the fan to take a picture of him (pictured above) and he let Leal leave the room unharassed. Now that is true fan service.
