Portsmouth FC has launched a new 2014-15 home shirt that beautifully honors World War I, 100 hundred years after the United Kingdom’s entrance to the war.
Specifically, the shirt contains the names of 1,400 men lost from the Pompey Pals. The pals battalions were groups in the British Army that consisted of men who voluntary enlisted at local recruiting drives, with the promise that they would serve alongside friends, neighbors and relatives.
“As a city with rich military history, it is important that we honor World War I,” Micah Hall, Portsmouth’s commercial and marketing manager told the Mirror.
