With soccer’s popularity in the United States spiking thanks to the World Cup, MLS action got some shine on ESPN over the weekend. Sporting KC and Chicago Fire faced off in Kansas City and Sporting KC forward Dom Dwyer made sure he grabbed ahold of the national spotlight.
After creating a turnover and scoring the game’s first goal in the 33rd minute, Dwyer celebrated by running over to the stands and taking a selfie with teammate Soony Saad and a group of fans. A photographer had Dwyer’s cell phone at the ready so it was clearly a pre-planned celebration, and also one that earned him a yellow card.
Worth it? Probably.
