This week, United States Women’s National Team legend Megan Rapinoe called out current player Korbin Albert after Albert was found to have been reposting anti-LGBTQ posts on social media. And Rapinoe also took the opportunity to stand up for the transgender community.
While Megan Rapinoe did not mention Korbin Albert by name, she did not hold back in her criticism of the current USWNT player and made it very clear that even if Albert does not, she is a strong supporter of transgender people and transgender athletes.
“For people who want to hide behind ‘my beliefs,’ I would just ask one question, are you making any type of space safer, more inclusive, more whole, any semblance of better, bringing the best out of anyone,” Rapinoe wrote on Instagram, according to Yahoo Sports.
“Because if you aren’t, all you believe in is hate. And kids are literally killing themselves because of this hate. Wake [the heck] up!
“Yours truly, #15.
“For all my trans homies enduring this horrific treatment day in and day out, I see you and hear you and I am WITH YOU.”
Rapinoe has been a champion for LGBTQ rights throughout her entire playing career. It makes sense that she would send such a strong statement now.
