After announcing on Monday he was healthy enough to play versus Belgium, United States forward Jozy Altidore will not start in today’s game (4:00 PM EST, ESPN), according to ESPN’s Jeremy Schaap who spoke with Jurgen Klinsmann.
The veteran Altidore pulled his hamstring in their opening game against Ghana and missed the next two games versus Portugal and Germany. While Klinsmann acknowledged he was available, it remains unclear if he will see any action.
“We don’t know how much [he can play] but he’s available. Just having him with us tomorrow is huge,” the coach told ESPN on Monday.
The decision is not surprising, given the nature of the injury but it will be an interesting storyline to monitor late in the match.
Think Altidore wants a chance?
