The United States Women’s National Team did not have the success the team hoped for at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, falling in the round of 16 after a penalty shootout against Sweden. But it sure sounds like United States President Joe Biden is still proud of their efforts at the tournament.

Following the USWNT’s disappointing loss to Sweden in the penalty kick shootout, United States President Joe Biden posted a message on Twitter where he said that the team has “made your country proud.”

“@USWNT, you’ve made your country proud. Congratulations on an incredible run. This team is something special and I’m looking forward to seeing how you continue to inspire Americans with your grit and determination – on and off the field,” Biden said in his tweet.

The United States entered the tournament as the favorites to win their third consecutive FIFA Women’s World Cup title, but they never looked dominant in any of their four matches, managing just one goal in each of their last three matches, winning none of them.

The loss to Sweden in the first match of the knockout round marks the earliest the team has ever been eliminated from a World Cup in its entire existence.
