Fan Shines Laser Pointer in Wayne Rooney’s Face During Missed Penalty Kick

Did a laser pointer prevent Wayne Rooney from nailing a potential game-saving penalty kick?

After Manchester United and Middlesbrough played to a 0-0 tie in 120 minutes of their fourth-round League Cup game, Rooney missed their first kick after Grant Leadbitter gave Middlesbrough a 1-0 lead. Following the missed kick, cameras revealed that a fan hit Rooney with a laser pointer directly in the face.

Although he did not complain about the laser publicly and it’s unclear if it even caused him to miss the shot, it remains an interesting footnote from their loss:
