Henry Cavill to lead Netflix’s ‘The Witcher’ series

In some unexpectedly delightful news, Superman himself, Henry Cavill, announced on his Instagram account he’ll star in Netflix’s ‘The Witcher’ adaptation.

Cavill will play Geralt of Riva in the fantasy series from author Andrzej Sapkowski. The series has since been adapted to video games with 2016’s ‘The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt’ from developer’s CD Projekt Red widely considered one of the greatest games of all-time.

The eight-episode show will center on Cavill’s Geralt, a “solitary monster hunter who struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts.” He then comes into contact with a sorceress and a young princess, and together the three must overcome the dangers of the harsh, violent Continent.

Lauren Schmidt Hissrich (‘Marvel’s Daredevil’) will be the showrunner with Game of Thrones alum Alik Sakharov will direct the series first four episodes.

With Cavill having so much film success in the DC Extended Universe and ‘Mission Impossible’ series, I wouldn’t have guessed he was interested in shifted back to TV – where he got his first taste of fame (on ‘The Tudors’). But, Netflix wants there own fantasy epic and getting a huge name like Cavill to star is a massive get.

Netflix might have found its own ‘Game of Thrones,’ with some serious star power in Cavill leading the way.
