Legendary Notre Dame football coach Lou Holtz has been pretty open about his conservative values in recent years. And on Wednesday, he discussed Donald Trump’s recent vice president pick for the upcoming 2024 election.

While there were seemingly several candidates that Trump considered to be his running mate, he ultimately decided to choose Ohio Senator J.D. Vance.

Holtz has had many stops throughout his collegiate coaching career, one of which being an assistant for the Ohio State Buckeyes back in 1968.

Vance got his undergraduate degree at Ohio State. And for this, Holtz had some positive things to say about the vice presidential candidate.

“I’m a big fan of President Trump, and I always have been, because of things he believes in,” said Holtz on his podcast. “Yesterday, he announced the wonderful vice President, the pick of J.D. Vance. Now, being an Ohio boy and having been a coach at Ohio State and having him graduate from there, that’s always exciting. I know he’ll do great things for the country.”

Holtz then went on to say even more positive things about Trump in particular, calling him an “outstanding person” that he “loves”.

“The thing about Donald Trump, and I know him pretty well, play golf with him. He’s honest, he’s caring, he’s an outstanding person. He’s as personable as anybody in the world. Yeah, you may not like some of his tweets, and I don’t either, but I love the man, and I would go to the end of the Earth in order to help him.”

At this point, it sure seems like Holtz is going to end up getting his wish and have Trump back in office. At the moment, he can be found as high as a -300 favorite in the current presidential betting odds to regain the presidency.
