United States President Joe Biden recently told a pretty interesting story about why he rooted for the Green Bay Packers growing up, but unfortunately for him, it does not appear that the story is actually true.
During a recent speech, Joe Biden told a story about why he and his entire Catholic school in Delaware rooted for the Green Bay Packers.
“I went to a Catholic high school in Delaware taught by the Norbertines priest from St. Norbert College… Near that little team called Green Bay,” Biden told an audience.

“Now, here’s the deal,” Biden continued, “We were the only high school in Delaware who overwhelmingly rooted for Green Bay. [Crowd laughs]. Not a joke, I’ll tell you why: Every single Sunday. Not only did they have great teams at the time β still do β but not only that, my theology professor at the Catholic school I went to was a guy named Riley. Last name. And he had been drafted by the Green Bay Packers.”
“He decided to become a priest before that, so he didn’t go, but every single solitary Monday that Green Bay won, we got the last period of the day off.”
But as someone pointed out on social media, this story is clearly untrue because there is no record of anybody named “Reilly” or “Riley” ever being drafted by the Green Bay Packers during that time.
According to the All Time Green Bay Packers Draft pick list there is no record of a "Riley" or "Reilly" that fits his story.
I think maybe his draft record was eaten by cannibalshttps://t.co/EsLiD9Lh6D

Additionally, Biden has told another version of this story before with some very different facts.
Biden told this fib before but he can't even get his story straight.https://t.co/xYbolddnJB

Needless to say, it’s pretty horrible news for Biden that he was caught in a clear lie like this, and it led to a lot of reactions on social media as a result.
It baffles me that the media doesnβt care he just makes up stories. https://t.co/69sa1CWyaA

The Packers have never drafted anyone by that name, at least not at the time.
Another made up story from Biden. https://t.co/klgFcYbiqH

The mark of an unlikable person is they tell long, boring, usually not true stories. It's an incessant need to be liked and relatable.
Joe Biden is neither of these things. Not liked and not relatable. 40+ years in politics and the only thing he can claim is a crime bill. https://t.co/LakS3fgGTd

It would be odd for a high school theology teacher to be called a professor, then be drafted, and then become a priest. Pick a career already, Reilly Last Name.

It’s not clear whether he’s intentionally lying or simply misremembering. Either way, it’s not a good look.
