Earlier this year, transgender social media influencer Dylan Mulvaney was the center of some major controversy when she partnered with Bud Light for a promotion, resulting in backlash and a boycott from conservative customers all across the country. This week, Mulvaney won an award for “Breakout Creator” at the 2023 Streamy Awards, and she had a clear message for those critics.
After winning the award, Dylan Mulvaney said that she would celebrate by cracking open a beer. She also called out the transphobia that she has been subjected to throughout the controversy.
“My life has been changed for the better,” the trans influencer said while clutching her award, according to the New York Post. “But also there’s been an extreme amount of transphobia and hate, and I know that my community is feeling it, and I know that even our allies are feeling it.”
Mulvaney praised the allies who support the transgender and LGBTQ community and called on people to continue their support.
“You need to support trans people publicly and proudly,’ she proclaimed before being interrupted by a storm of applause from the audience.
“I’m gonna go have a beer and… I love ya,” she said at the end of her speech as she scurried off the stage.
